The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a pioneering five core undergraduate programme which is aligned to the Civil Services. The Department is staffed by faculty from diverse areas such as Psychology, Gandhian Studies, History, Geography, Sociology, Philosophy, Economics, Political Science and International Relations and Public Policy. The unique selling proposition of this department is its robust outreach programme which involves a mandatory 100 hours of community engagement across health, sanitation, education, animal welfare, urban development, tribal development, agricultural extension and sustainability. In addition to the rigorous curriculum in Foundation, Core and Elective Courses, the programme also offers value based extension activities which are closely supervised. The programme brings a contemporary relevance to Gandhian ideology through its diverse courses. The Department also offers Value Based Education support to GITAM and organizes Cultural Immersion Programmes.
